The temptation of faking sincerity too much
Observation, first drafted on Nov. 4, published on Nov. 12, 2007
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Certainly, one of the biggest challenges that a mature and modern democracy poses to the individual is not to
fake sincerity too much. For too disparate and chaotic are the circumstances that the individual is living in
nowadays, that it would still be easy for him not to take advantage of this alienation by pretending that he is more
honest than he actually is.
No, if we do not want to lie to ourselves, we have to admit that we all know how to sell ourselves. And so it is only
logical, that we use this ability to manipulate people according to our goals. For too little would we else have
explored our own potential that we could now still hope to develop that.
Given therefore that it is only natural that we employ make-believe-tactics to satisfy our needs the real question
that reason puts to us now is not whether we should forego these autosuggestive tools or not - for there can be
no doubt that some of that faking sincerity business is necessary to guarantee a smooth and soft development of
social interaction - , but rather how much of this pretending activity is acceptable to actually sustain the peace that
it hopefully is striving for.
And to this day, we believe, there is no better yard stick to measure the reasonableness of such an acting
strategy than the categoric imperative that Immanual Kant has formulated erstwhile. For too much is it here in the
old “do-not-do-to-others-what-you-do-not-want-them-to-do- you” that all harmony is eternally resting in, that we
would now still have to look elsewhere to find a moral middle ground.
No, no, if we do want to capture the fine line, where working oneself up is turning into an outright self-betrayal we
do not have to look outside of us to justify our doings but much rather have to ask ourselves whether we would
like be on the receiving end of our own suggestive ploy. And so it is in this reflexive contemplation that we can
discover the standard for emanating the truth. For too little would we else have balanced our own activities we
could now still hope to encourage others to do the same.
Given therefore, that it is our own lack of introspectiveness that causes others to rebel against it, we can only
urge our reader not to fool himself by hiding behind so-called accepted professional standards. For too little
would he then have questioned them that he could now still trust to preserve peace with them.

Footnote: In this context Noah denkt™ has to give special thanks to Imran Khan for having highlighted Gen. Musharraf’s ability to
fake sincerity well to us. For too much is it this analysis of his that has inspired us to provide the aforementioned comment, that we
should not give him credit now for his superior interpretation skills.
No, if we want to be honest here, we have to accept that Mr. Musharraf’s state of emergency speech was a poster boy case for
exemplifying the destructive powers that developed faking sincerity talent can have. And so it is only reasonable that we would take
the pains of explaining that. For too little would we else have done to detail the anti-democratic temptations that there are that we
could now still hope to minimize them.
No no, if we do not want to lie to ourselves, we have to admit, that it is particular difficult for politicians, to maintain a balanced
sincerity approach. And so it is only logical that we must help them to not lose their self-critique. For too little would the public
otherwise have supported them that it could now still expect its leader to discipline themselves.
