- The current financial surge has a lot in common with the military one in Iraq
- Just as the rise in military personnel in Iraq brought about surprising stabilizing results, so will the
government intervention in the financial markets produce unexpected successes.
- Both achievements, however, will only provide interim relief.
- For, just as much as the nation and democracy building process in Iraq and Afghanistan will ultimately fail,
so will it eventually become clear that governments cannot forever prevent a necessary economic
correction from happening.
- In other words, the highly complex and media-driven world society of ours makes it just as impossible to
(really) win unjustified wars therein, as it makes it turns it into wishful thinking that economic depressions
can be avoided forever.
- Scholars of reason and enlightenment should welcome these developments.
- For just as much as it is necessary to avoid unreasonable, military bloodshed, it is healthy that undue
social complacence, excessive technocratic stupidity and reckless greed should cause a substantial
cultural and political soul searching.
- In other words, what we are currently witnessing is the last of hurray of a world view which to this day
believes in the near almightiness of government power.
- It is therefore indispensable that from now on governments will have to have an extremely sharp sense of
reality if they truly want to wield their power effectively.
- Finally, we should be grateful to the simple-minded version of neo-conservatism that it has unwillingly
helped to bring this revelation about.
