The wonders of globalisation
Commentary, drafted on Aug 8, 2007

It is a complete mystery to Noah denkt™ how anyone who is based in St. Louis, Chicago or New York can have
the confidence to invest his clients’ money in Europe or Asia (or vice versa for that matter), if he neither speaks a
regional language nor has lived sufficient time there.
After all, this person will not be able to read between the cultural lines. And so he won’t be capable of evaluating
his investments there. For too limited will be his own 3D intuition there that he could still feel safe enough to risk
his clients’ paycheck there.
That it happens all the same and money managers still take the liberty to ignore their lack of local wherewithal, is,
in our mind, the result of an overly simplistic economists’ view. For too little does the latter take into account the
intricacies of the human soul that it could still be able to adequately study them.
No, anyone in his clear mind has to understand, that the world is not a linear place. And so he can not allow
himself to simply extrapolate his standard views. Since too little would he thereby acknowledge the dialectic nature
of human life that he could now continue to successfully speculate on it.
Given however that Noah denkt™ has promised to itself not to fall into this bookkeeping trap, it must admit today
that it feels unable to associate itself with the current China hysteria. For too little does it know how to look behind
this country’s vertiginous front that it could still justify to build its hopes on it.
Now, obviously, some people will argue that this in an outright foolish approach. After all, they will say, one does
not have to be a China expert to believe in its continued growth. Since all that is needed here is to trust the
recognized observers there. And so all that is required now is to confide in their professional reputation. For too
much is their specialists’ fame at stake here that one could not reasonably now bet on it.
To those however, who feel comfortable enough to build their judgement on third party hearsay, we would like to
say that such (very) circumstantial evidence is not even admissible in a US Court. And so we urge our reader not
to lower his standard to the far. Since too little would he thereby take responsibility for his own beliefs that he
could now still adequately question them.
No, no, anyone who believes in the division of labor, has to understand, that his convictions do not hold a license
to giving up his independent thinking. And so he will not be able to simply follow the trend. For too little would he
then have cross-examined it, that he could now still comfortably believe in it.
